Taking your dog on a staycation can be equally as stressful as it is fun. There’s lots of things you’ll need to remember to take for them, to ensure they’re as comfortable and stress free as possible. Because traveling can definitely bestressful for dogs, as can discovering new places until they’re settled and comfortable.
I’m a big list-person and can’t go anywhere without a list and going on a staycation with my dog would be no exception.
But of course, a staycation with your dog comes with a whole host of things to take with you, so here is a basic packing list for your dog during their next staycation!
Their normal food
Whilst it’ll be nice to give your dog the odd treat during your trip, you’ll want to try and stick with their normal food as much as possible, along with their eating routine.
Their bed
Even if they don’t sleep in their bed in the night whilst you’re away, you’ll want to take a comfy bed with you for somewhere for them to retreat to if they want some sleepy time during the day or some down time if things get a bit much.
A suitable lead
If you don’t want to let your dog off it’s lead somewhere you’re not familiar with then an extended lead would be a good option for this however you might want to consider having a look at a slip lead for dogs if you want to keep them closer, especially if you’re still training your dog.
Comforting items
Most dogs have a blanket or a toy that they use for comfort. Amber has a little pink unicorn that she sleeps with and it’s so cute! Ensure they have something comforting with them that smells like home and their familiar surroundings.
Medications
You definitely don’t want to forget any medications your dog might take, especially if they have to take them on certain days / certain times of day.
Paperwork, insurance, medical details
In the event of your dog going missing or coming down with an illness or injury whilst you’re away, it’s better to have your paperwork with account details and medical information on hand. This can be stored in the boot of the car, unless you unfortunately need it.
Food and water bowls
For health reasons, you’ll probably want to bring your own food and water bowls along with you, instead of relying on the accommodation to supply one.
