9 Cozy Things To Do In Lincolnshire This Autumn

I’d highly recommend visiting Lincolnshire for a staycation if you’re not around this part of the UK. There are so many lovely things to do a see, from small quaint villages to the cobbled streets of the city to vast peaceful countryside.

Living in the countryside has done wonders for my mental health so far. Our garden overlooks a field and looking out the window each morning really encourages me to take a moment and slow down and appreciate the views. It reminds me to breathe. Something I never experienced, living in busy Essex, with people, cars and buildings everywhere you looked.

So, based on my limited experience of living in Lincolnshire, here are 9 cozy things to do this Autumn (I’m sure I’ll have more things to add to this list as my experience here grows!):

9 Cozy Things To Do in Lincolnshire in Autumn:

See a horror movie at the Kinema in the Woods

The Kinema in the Woods is one of the cutest and most special cinemas in the UK. You’ll be hard pressed to find another one like it. Donning just 4 screens – with the fourth only seating 21 people! – this historic cinema will transport you back to the 20’s, with it’s array of wonderful movie memorabilia in the foyer, an interview mid-movie and, if you’re lucky, an organ player!

Get coffee in Woodhall Spa

Staying in Woodhall Spa where The Kinema in the Woods is located, this is a gorgeous village to spend a slow and quiet afternoon. You won’t find Primark or M&S here though; it’s full of small independent shops (including a great bookstore!) and lovely coffee shops to stop at.

Explore Lincoln Cathedral

Possibly the most famous landmark in Lincolnshire and that’s the beautiful Lincoln Cathedral itself. It costs £11 for an adult to tour Monday-Saturday, which includes the whole Cathedral plus Discovery Centre and Exhibition Gallery. Dogs are also welcome and there’s a gift shop and a tearoom to stop at at the end of your visit.

Book shopping at Lindum Books

On your way up to the Cathedral on infamous Steep Hill (it’s VERY steep, so I’d recommend doing a bit of research on this part of the city before you try and tackle it if you’ve got a disability which might make it difficult) there’s plenty of cute shops but if you’re a book lover, you’re going to want to make a stop at Lindum Books!

Visit Lincolnshire Wolds Wildlife Park

Spending the day wandering around a zoo or a wildlife park, wrapped up warm, with a hot chocolate in hand, is one of my favourite things to do when the weather gets cooler. And, like most places in the UK, Lincolnshire has it’s share of animal-based days out to choose from. A highlighted one for me would be the Wolds Wildlife Park where you can see lions, tigers and bears. Oh my.

Update: The Wolds Wildlife Park is shut from October 1st 2023 for the Winter season and due to the cost of living. They are still open for their animal experiences.

Have a drink by the fire at the Petwood Hotel

The Petwood Hotel is located in Woodhall Spa and this Edwardian era mansion is one of the most beautiful places to go and have a drink in the lounge, sitting by the roaring fire. They serve good food and have lovely grounds, if you fancied a walk around as well.

Visit Bell’s Pumpkin Patch in Boston

It’s basically illegal to not go to a pumpkin patch in Autumn, isn’t it? Harvesting over 1 million pumpkins a year, Bell’s Pumpkin Patch is one of the largest in the UK. Perfect for kids, with tractor rides, mazes and photo opportunities, this would make for a super cozy day out this Autumn for the family

Explore Tattershall Castle

Tattershall Castle is a Medieval 15th century brickwork castle, built by Lord Ralph Cromwell, Treasurer of England, it was designed to show off his wealth, position and power. Explore the grounds or venture up the tower and admire the magnificent architecture and opulence of this amazing building.

Have a spa day at Belton Woods

I like to have a spa break in Autumn, as a way to unwind and destress before the Christmas rush starts and in Lincolnshire, you’ll want to head to Belton Woods in Grantham. Whether it’s a facial, a massage, a swim in the heated pool or even an overnight stay, this beautiful hotel and spa will welcome you for a well-needed Autumnal break.
